The roof has been raised!

Less thank 12 months after fundraising activity began, we are delighted to report that our target has now been reached andthe appeal fund is in a position to discharge all the expenses for the essential repair work undertaken to our Grade I listed church, St. Wilfrid's.

The roof and other repairs were identified as part of the building's most recent 'quinquennial' inspection' by specialist surveyors. They will protect the fabric of the building, much of which is believed to date back to the 13th Century, from damage and decay caused by damp and water ingress. They will also protect interior fittings and several items of historic interest.

The final bill for the roof work slightly exceeded £146,000, including professional fees, and we were also able to fund a replacement boiler, £16,734, providing a more reliable and controllable source of heat for the building. Taking into account the incidental costs of the appeal, over £165,000 has been raised overall through grants from charitable trusts and foundations as well as community donations and fuundraising events.

Almost £34,000 has been raised locally through donations and events - all of which have been memorable and very enjoyable.

A huge thank you to all those who took part in any way in this appeal. Your generosity clearly shows how we all regard the church building as an iconic feature of village life that is well worth looking after.
